On Saturday, June 26th the PNW Wake for Warriors group hosted another great event with us on Lake Tapps. Wake for Warriors is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 by veterans. Their purpose is to share their love for wake and water sports with injured military veterans. They help heal the emotional and psychological wounds of military veterans and their families. WFW is guided by combat veterans that understand the value of camaraderie without the hype, marketing or fanfare.
This year’s annual event took place at Driftwood Park on Lake Tapps and the riders arrived at 8am ready to surf. A big thank you to Terry Knight from Wake for Warriors, Justin Nimick with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp and the Driftwood Point Community for their support and coordinating all of details.
After a quick captain’s meeting, the riders headed out to surf Lake Tapps!
Instructors helped all of the riders get comfortable and ready for action on the water. This day is all about having fun and bonding together. The weather was hot and everyone couldn’t wait to get on the water.
After a few hours wake boarding, the boats came in for lunch and to relax before heading out again. Hyperlite is one of the national sponsors for Wake for Warriors and they provided wakeboards for everyone to use.
The temperatures soared to 95 degrees and so it was time to hit the water and cool off after lunch. No matter the level of expertise or experience, the instructors made sure everyone got out on the water and had fun. That’s what this day was all about. Fun, bonding together and spending the day on the water doing what they love.
We also owe a big thank you to our manager Rob Pedrini, who helped organize this huge event!
It was an awesome day and we can’t wait until next year! Thank you to all of the veterans for your service and bravery!
